Frequently Asked Questions - Is Hypnotherapy for Me?

WILL HYPNOSIS MAKE ME REMEMBER THINGS ACCURATELY?

No. Hypnosis can improve our recall of events that we believe happened to us. But hypnosis is not a way to find out the truth (whatever that may be) about events that are in dispute. In other words, during hypnosis you may re-experience events, but there is no guarantee that you are remembering them correctly. Hypnosis only assists a person in recalling perceptions.

IS HYPNOTHERAPY RIGHT FOR ME?

Hypnotherapy tends to work well if you:

  • Are motivated to make a change and are open to the process
  • Struggle with a habit, thought pattern, or feeling that logic alone hasn't shifted
  • Have a specific, definable goal such as stress, a phobia, a habit, poor sleep, confidence, or something similar
  • Are comfortable being an active participant in your own treatment (hypnosis works with you, not on you)

It may not be the right fit, or may need extra care, if you:

  • Have been diagnosed with psychosis, schizophrenia, or certain other conditions
  • Are seeking hypnotherapy as a replacement for medical or mental health treatment rather than alongside it
  • Want hypnosis to "prove" or recover a disputed memory;  it can support recall, but isn't a reliable way to establish facts (see above)

If you are uncertain whether hypnotherapy could help your particular problem, contact us and we will assess whether hypnotherapy would be suitable for you. At Positive-Hypnosis, we are always very happy to talk to you confidentially if you have any additional queries or concerns.
